1969 Chrysler 300
Purchased back on October, 1987, my Chrysler was previously owned by
one of our parts men at work and was purchased for the princely sum of
$500. Apart from some rust in the quarter panels, some parking lot
dings and one small dent in the roof, it was a solid car despite the
133,000 odd miles on it at the time.
The interior was a little worse for wear. The front seats were torn and
the left seat back was badly cracked. It was the fact that it had
bucket seats and a console, plus the fact that I had never seen a four
door hardtop with this interior that convinced me to buy it.
I drove it in the same condition I bought it until July 1, 1988. On
this particular long weekend a sixteen-year-old girl decided to turn
left in front of me and the end result was one wounded 300. This, by
the way, was in Billings, Montana. Now that I look back I wonder if the
accident had never happened, would the car have ever gone much beyond
that way I bought it?
Once I got back home, the car was booked into our body shop at work.
Work started Stampede week, 1988 and was finished a week before I left
for holidays. The car went to San Francisco and Reno - nothing like a
shake-down for the beast.
The car is equipped with the standard 440 4bbl K code engine, 727
torqueflight, 3.23 sure grip rear and power everything. It now has
nearly 166,000 miles on it and I doubt if the engine has ever been
opened up. This car has given me a lot of pleasure and a few fits, but
get rid of it? NEVER!!
